John Louis Siwek

John Louis Siwek, 86, of South Sundown Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, in Ironwood Heath and Rehabilitation Center after a short illness. He was born on May 25, 1916, in Chicago, Ill., (back of the "Yards") to the late Zofia (Krzywon) and Ladislaus Siwek. On March 18, 1993, in South Bend, he married Dorothy (nee Czarnecki) Wesolowski, who survives.

Mr. Siwek is also survived by his stepchildren, Patricia (William) Michalak, Carol (Stephen) Jaworski, Karen (Brian) Koszyk, David (Marsha) Wesolowski, Edward (Melinda) Wesolowski and Donald (Cynthia) Wesolowski, all of South Bend; 17 step-grandchildren and 18 step-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his nieces and nephews from the Chicago area: Dorothy (Daniel) Korzon, Ben (Betty Ann) Perek, Raymond (Kathy) Perek, Rev. Daniel Siwek, Ronald Siwek, Edward (Jeanne) Siwek, Mary Ann (Chris) Kral, Janice (Jerry) Stojetz and Gary (Jeanne) Siwek. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph (Josephine), Stanley (Frances), Frank and Casey; and sisters, Mae (Ben) Perek and Lola (George) Schiestel.

 

After a long career in the meat packing industry, Mr. Siwek was employed as an electric pari-mutuel clerk at several Chicagoland thoroughbred racetracks. He was a proud lifetime member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 134 and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union of Chicago. He was an avid golfer for many years.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, in Holy Family Catholic Church, where friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Please omit flowers and offer memorial contributions to the Holy Family Church Building Fund, 56405 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN 46619. The St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 South Mayflower Road, is handling arrangements.
