Geneva Lena Smallwood

SOUTH BEND - Geneva Lena Smallwood, 72, of 421 Blaine Ave., died at 12:10 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital after an illness. Mrs. Smallwood was a retired teacher with the Head Start Program. She was born April 1, 1922, in Ansted, W.Va.

 

On Feb. 20, 1940, in Ansted, she married James B. Smallwood. He died Dec. 4, 1974. Surviving are eight daughters, Kay Joyner, Doretta Smallwood, Sandra Jones, Sarah Smallwood, all of South Bend, Mary Smallwood, Deborah Dye and Emma Smallwood, all of Milwaukee, Wis., and Geneva Smallwood of Washington, D.C.; five sons, Ricky, Harry Dewayne, Howard, Gary and Joseph, all of South Bend; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; four sisters, Sarah Davis and Edna Brown, both of Washington, D.C., Nazimova Hopkins and Luvenia Taylor, both of Ansted; and a brother, Rudolph Cox of Youngstown, Ohio.

 

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Clark's Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
