MISHAWAKA - Alfred R. ''Smitty'' Smet, 82, of Holland, Mich., formerly of West Sixth Street, Mishawaka, died at 6 a.m. Saturday in the home of his daughter in Holland. Mr. Smet retired from Wheelabrator Corp. in 1973 after 36 years of service. He was born Nov. 6, 1911, in Mishawaka, and resided in this area until 1974, when he moved to Michigan.

On Dec. 13, 1941, in South Bend, he married Geraldine I. Fisher. She died July 3, 1974. Surviving are two daughters, Kay Rose Getz of Wakarusa, and Mary Lynn Kurtz of Holland; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
