Loretta E. Smigielski: (South Bend Tribune 9/2000)


July 17, 1927 – Sept. 14, 2000 Loretta E. Smigielski, 73, of South Falcon Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, in Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 17, 1927, in South Bend, and was the daughter of Enich and Esther (Hazinski) Jurgonski. Mrs. Smigielski retired in 1988 from Verkler Construction. Mrs. Smigielski was a home mother for Holy Cross School of Nursing, a member of the American Cancer Society support group, and a volunteer at the Leighton Center. She was a Eucharistic minister for the past 23 years at St. Patrick Catholic Church and an art student at Forever Learning Institute. On May 14, 1949, as Loretta Jurgonski, she married Richard Smigielski, who preceded her in death on June 23, 1993. She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Dale) Thornton and Sharon (Richard) Solloway, both of South Bend; one son, Richard (Sara) Smigielski, Jr., of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Dylan and Scott Ryan, Christopher and Kevin Smigielski and Sondra, Anna and David Solloway, all of South Bend; and by a brother, Edward (Rose) Jurgonski of South Bend. Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, with entombment to follow in the Resurrection Gardens Mausoleum at St. Joseph Cemetery.
