Brother Alexander CSC, age 76, died Wednesday morning at 7:15 o’clock in Community House, Notre Dame, after an illness of one month. He was born in Watertown, Wis., and for a number of years had been connected with the university. He was a brother in the Congregation of the Holy Cross. The funeral will be held Friday morning at 8 o’clock at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Notre Dame, with burial in the Community Cemetery.

Funeral services for Brother Alexander (Charles Smith), who died at the University of Notre Dame on Wednesday, were held this morning from Sacred Heart Church with a requiem high mass. Burial was in the Community Cemetery. He was born at Watertown, Wis., Nov. 14, 1850, entered the order in 1873, and made his religious profession Aug. 15, 1875. Brother Alexander was rector at Carroll Hall for 20 years while that was being used  for the preparatory students, and taught mathematics in the preparatory department for 37 years, never missing a class or being late during that entire period.
