South Bend - Ernest H. Smith, 77, of 1213 Belmont, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon in his home. He was a retired account and assistant credit manager for Dodge Manufacturing in Mishawaka. Born on Aug. 12, 1906, in Michigan, he had lived in the South Bend area since 1926, having come from Dowagic.
In March 1936, in South Bend, he married Lucille E. Krumanaker. She survives along with a daughter, Mrs. James (Diane) Heeter of South Bend; two sons, Ronald D. of South Bend and Donald E. of Carmel, Ind.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Hollis-Palmer Funeral Home, with Rev. William Imler, pastor of Clay United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Millhouse or to Wabash College.
