Sister Mary Tarcisius, CSC, 84, of St. Mary’s Convent, died at 11:45 a.m. Friday at the convent after a lengthy illness. Born Grace Marie Smithers on June 7, 1900 in Beaver Brook, Pa., she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at Saint Mary’s on Feb. 11, 1928, coming from Elkhart. She was received as a novice Aug. 15, 1928, and made her profession of vows Aug. 15, 1930

 

Sister Tarcisius taught in the primary schools in New York, Washington DC, Lancaster, Pa., Virginia, Maryland and Austin, Texas. She returned to the area in 1973 and was assigned to St. Paul’s School in Valparaiso. Sister Tarcisius returned to Saint Mary’s Convent in 1975.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Our Lady of Loretto. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery at St. Mary’s. Friends may call today and Sunday and until services Monday in Saint Mary’s Convent Parlors, where a rosary will be recited at 2:45 p.m. Sunday, and a wake service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday.
