SOUTH BEND - Gertrude D. Smith, 93, of St. Joseph's Care Center-West, South Bend, Ind., died at 11:35 a.m. on Monday in the nursing facility. Mrs. Smith was born on April 9, 1905, in Knox, Ind., and lived in this area most of her life.

In May, 1924 as Gertrude Turnbull, she married John C. Smith, who preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1979. She is survived by four daughters, Betty Van Lue of Muskegon, Mich., Lucille O'Banion and Rose (Richard) Van Bergen both of South Bend, Eva (Lesile) Eacker of Muskegon, Mich.; a son, John A. (Jacquelene) Smith of Dumfries, Virginia; 21 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and by four great-great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
