Mrs. Helen E. Smith, 88, of Riverview Boulevard, Osceola, Ind., passed away on Sunday morning, Nov. 7, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, Ind. She was born on March 10, 1911, in Niles, Mich., to Frank and Rose (Dalhizer) Young.

On Sept. 5, 1931, in South Bend, she married Virgil F. Smith, who died on Jan. 19, 1991. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Endrody; and by three brothers, Homer, Richard and Paul Young. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews who will miss her.

Mrs. Smith was an active member of the East United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1172 Auxiliary.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
