SOUTH BEND - Herman T. "Ted" Smith Jr., 79, residing in South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:47 AM Monday, January 25, 2010, in Memorial Hospital. He had retired from the South Bend Clinic after many years in the optical department. He was born on March 4, 1930, in Muncie, IN, to Herman T. Sr. and Mary Margaret (Settle) Smith, and had lived in South Bend most of his life. Mr. Smith is survived by two sisters, Linda M. Peters of South Bend and Janice E. (Michael) Trueax of Mishawaka; and two brothers, Thomas L. (Marsha) Smith of Brooksville, FL, and David A. (Katie) Smith of South Bend. Mr. Smith served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, South Bend, and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
