Josephine P. Smith

Mrs. Josephine P. Smith, 87, of South Bend, Ind., expired at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, in the Regency Place Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. She was born to the late Odie and John W. Johnson on Feb. 1, 1912, in Chicago, Ill. Her husband, Mr. Leonard Smith, Sr., also preceded her in death on April 9, 1983.

 

Mrs. Smith retired as an L.P.N. from South Bend Memorial Hospital and later worked for the South Bend Community School Corporation as a math tutor. For many years she was a member of the Greater Saint John Missionary Baptist Church and she was a member of its ''Circle Four Missionary Society.'' She was also a member of ''Tuesday's Bridge Club.''

 

She is survived by two daughters, Joan Smith of Detroit, Mich., and Marlene Wright of South Bend; two sons, Mr. Leonard Smith, Jr., of Granger, Ind., and Rev. Dr. Paul Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Odie Streets of Niles, Mich.; and by nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Greater Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, followed by funeral services at 12 noon. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.

Funeral services are entrusted to the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home.
