Kris Lee Smith, Jr., 17, of Oakland Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 11 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12, at 1821 Lincoln Way East, South Bend. He was born on June 15, 1982, in South Bend, to Kris and Kathi (Pruett) Smith, and had lived in this community all of his life. He is survived by his parents, Kris and Kathi of South Bend; two sisters, Jeni Smith at home and Stephanie Carver of Indianapolis, Ind.; two brothers, Stephen and Jaime Smith at home; maternal grandparents, Carl and Dolores Pruett of South Bend; a paternal grandmother, Lois Ree Smith of South Bend; and by a maternal great- grandmother, Frances Taberski of South Bend. Kris attended John Adams High School in South Bend. He was currently employed as a crew leader at Wendy's where he had worked for the past 2 1/2 years.

Funeral services for Kris will be at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Rodney Wright will officiate. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday in the Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend. A prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Palmer Funeral Home, followed by a processional to Riverview Cemetery, South Bend, where burial will take place. Contributions in memory of Kris Smith may be made to the American Lung Association, 319 S. Main Street, South Bend, IN 46601, in care of the Asthma Camp Fund which allows local children ages 8-14 who have asthma to attend Camp Superkids in Rochester, Ind.
