Howard J. Snyder

Howard J. Snyder, 82, of the Hamilton Grove Retirement Community in New Carlisle, Ind., died at 4:20 a.m. on Sunday, March 21, in the LaPorte Hospital, LaPorte, Ind. Howard was born on Nov. 29, 1916, in LaPorte County, Ind., to Nina (Stombaugh) and James Snyder, who both preceded him in death. He was a lifetime resident of the area.

 

On March 18, 1939, Howard married Dolores F. Bourdon, who also preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 1996. He is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Albert) Vanderheyden and Jacqueline (James J.) Gruber, both of South Bend; two sons, James (Sharlene) Snyder of Brighton, Mich., and Frederick (Linda) Snyder of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; grandchildren, Timothy Vanderheyden, Christine Vanderheyden, Diane Stanfield, James H. Gruber, Jill McHone, Joseph Gruber, Jay Gruber, Jeffrey Gruber, Jennifer Fendt, Bret Snyder, Kenrick Snyder, Audra Snyder, Damon Snyder and Corine Cogan; and by nine great-grandchildren.

 

Howard was a retired car salesman. During World War II he served with the United States Navy.

 

Funeral services for Howard J. Snyder will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Burial will follow in the Crumstown Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Contributions in memory of Howard J. Snyder may be made to the Hamilton Grove Retirement Community.
