SOUTH BEND - Catherine Sorgenfrei, 91, of South Bend, passed away quietly in her sleep at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2008, in the Ironwood Health & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. She was born on February 4, 1917, to James and Catherine (Barkley) Thompson in Gladstone, NJ, and had lived in the South Bend area since 1950. On February 11, 1948, she married Ralph Crowder, who passed away in July 1978. She remarried on September 29, 1984, to Ralph Sorgenfrei, who passed away in May 1994. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa (Gene) Myers of New Paris, IN. She is survived by her daughter, Clara Sue Crowder of South Bend; granddaughter, Amy (Ryan) Zigler of Churubusco, IN; grandson, Matthew Logan of Ft. Wayne, IN; great-granddaughters, Lauryn Logan, Aliyah Zigler and Abbie Logan; one great-grandson, Luke Zigler; and a stepdaughter, Alice Jean Donaldson of St. Joseph, MI. Catherine was an avid gardener, cook, birdwatcher, cross-stitcher and painter of water colors. Her memory will be cherished by her loving family and friends. She was a member of the Avalon Grotto Auxiliary until its demise.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, with one hour of visitation prior to the services. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the charity of choice.
