Roger James Sowala

SOUTH BEND - Roger James Sowala, 70, a former Holy Cross priest, died on May 27, 2008, in NYC after a long illness. He was born in South Bend on February 22, 1938, to Martha Rzepka and Edward Sowala. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1960, was ordained in 1964, and received a Ph.D. from Fordham University in 1974. Until his death he was a practicing clinical psychologist with offices in Manhattan and Jackson Heights. He also was a professor at Marymount Manhattan College for over 30 years, an attending psychologist at New York Hospital, and a consultant for the Edwin Gould Agency for Children. He is survived by his wife, Wendy, daughter, Ellen, sister, Kathryn Miller of Sarasota, Florida, brother, Randolph Sowala of Virginia Beach, nieces and nephews.

 

The family will gather at Conway Funeral Home 82-19 Northern Boulevard, Jackson Heights, NY 13372, on Friday, June 6th, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 7th, in Marymount Manhattan College, 221 E. 71st Street, NY, NY.
