SOUTH BEND - John D. Spears, 64, of 515 E. Monroe St., died at 11 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Medical Center after an illness. Mr. Spears was formerly employed by Copco Steel Engineering and New York Blower Co.

He was born Oct. 21, 1929, in Indianapolis, and lived in South Bend most of his life. He is survived by three sons, Jeff B. of Orlando, Fla., Dale A. of Port Charlotte, Fla., and William L. of Cincinnati; 11 grandchildren; his mother, Helen E. More-Spears of South Bend; and a brother, James A. of South Bend. He was a graduate of Indiana University and a member of St. Vincent DePaul Board and Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church. Burial will be in City Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or St. Vincent DePaul Society.
