Anthony ''Tony'' Springer, 85, of 1536 16th Avenue, Moline, Ill., died Friday, Oct. 11, 1996, at Trinity Medical Center, East Campus, Moline, Ill. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 15 at DeRoo Funeral Home Ltd., Moline, and 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Moline, where he was a member. Burial was in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline, with military rites conducted by the East Moline American Legion.

 

Mr. Springer was born on Jan. 5, 1911, in South Bend, Ind., the son of John and Josephine Zielinski Springer. He married Alice M. Brall in February, 1971, in East Moline. He was employed at John Deere Foundry, Silvis, Ill.,retiring in 1976 after 12 years. Mr. Springer was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of East Moline American Legion Post 227, John Deere Local 81, and the East Moline Eagles.

 

He was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed roses, woodworking, and making hooked rugs. He is survived by his widow; a daughter, Joydel; sons, Kenneth and Thomas Springer, South Bend, and Robert Springer, Indianapolis, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and sisters, Esther Szabo, Angie Kantosowski and Sophie Jeblonski, all of South Bend.
