Matthew Robert Stachowiak, 20, of
Granger, IN, died Sunday morning, July 2, 2000, as a result of an
automobile accident in Michigan. Born April 8, 1980, in South
Bend, to Robert and Cathy (Cukro-wicz) Stachowiak. Also surviving
him are his brother, Mark of Columbus, Ohio. A half brother,
Joshua Yarian of Fort Knox, Ky.; and his stepmother,
Sherry Stachowiak. His maternal grandparents, Stan and Mary
Cukrowicz of South Bend; his paternal grandparents, Edward and
Irene Stachowiak of South Bend.
Matt graduated from Saint Joseph's High
School in 1998 and was attending Purdue University. Matt played
soccer and golf for his high school, and received all-state
honors in soccer during his junior year as the team advanced to
the final four. Matt's golf highlites include a hole-in-one at
Morris Park Country Club's 9th hole, and played in the Knollwood
Country Clubs Invitational with his father last month. Matt was
also a former Jr. Irish soccer player for seven years.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on
Wednesday, July 5, 2000, in the WELSHEIMER FUNERAL HOME NORTH,
17033 Cleveland Road, and a wake prayer service will be held at
7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, in Christ the King Catholic
Church, and burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to the children's campus at the
Family and Children's Center.
