Dean Smith Stanton

GRANGER - Dean Smith Stanton, 69, of 30896 Janet St., died at 4 a.m. Friday in University of Chicago Hospital after an illness. Mr. Stanton retired in 1986 from NIBCO after 29 years of service. He was born Aug. 7, 1924, in Knox, and lived in this area 43 years.

 

On March 21, 1946, in South Bend, he married Jeanne S. Staton. She survives with two daughters, Elizabeth Sue Hahaj of Granger and Nancy Proffitt of Edwardsburg; a son, Thomas D. of Elkhart; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Gloria McClain of Mishawaka and Martha Mitchell of Phoenix, Ariz.; and three brothers, Eldon Stanton of Phalen, Calif., Ned of South Bend, and Ted of Elkhart.

 

He was a member of Wakarusa American Legion Post 307, United Steel Workers Local 12273, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

 

Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Warner Funeral Home. Private family visitation will be followed by cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
