Elizabeth A. Stanz, 77, of South Bend, Ind., passed away on Wednesday morning, Feb. 25, in the Regency Place Nursing Center. She was born on Nov. 26, 1920, in South Bend, to the late O. Edward and Maude (U'Ren) Anderson. On May 20, 1944, in San Antonio, Texas, she married Roger H. Stanz, who passed away in 1987. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Dr. O. Edward Anderson.

 

She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Stanz of South Bend, Susan and (Dr. Larry) Pasley of Granville, Ohio; a son, James R. (Patti) Stanz of Mishawaka, Ind.; four grandchildren, Kimberly, Jonathan, Benjamin Pasley and Christopher Stanz; and by a brother, Dr. Robert U. Anderson of Washington Courthouse, Ohio.

 

Mrs. Stanz retired in 1987 from the South Bend Community School Corporation and taught from 1971 to 1987 at Swanson School as a third grade teacher. She was a graduate of South Bend Central in 1939. She graduated from Oberland College with a BA in history in 1943 and received her Master's in education from Indiana University. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as deacon. She also belonged to the Service Guild of South Bend, the Morris Park Country Club and the University Club of Notre Dame.

 

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today in the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Morrow officiating. Burial will follow in the Mausoleum at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends called from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, and may also call from one hour prior to services today in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
