Phyllis J. Starks

March 29, 1943 - April 1, 1998

Phyllis Joan Starks, 55, loving mother, grandmother and sister, who resided on Newport Court, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away in her residence following an illness at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1.

She was born to the union of Walter and Zoda (Sangster) Starks on March 29, 1943, in South Bend, Ind. She had lived in Bay City, Mich. and returned to the area in 1997.

Those that will cherish her memory include three daughters, Kimberly Starks, Nicole Starks and Kristin Starks, all of Bay City; three grandchildren, Ayla Starks, Ronnie Wilkins and Kamri Wilkins; her father, Rev. Walter Starks of Lexington, Miss; seven sisters, Wilhelmena (Daniel) Lowe of Bay City, Jacqueline Thaxton and Marcia (Edward) Stafford, both of Denver, Colo., Verna McIntosh and Vicki (Amory) Whittington, both of Rockford, Ill. and Dorothy Porter and Bridget (Antonio) Cole, both of South Bend; one brother, Vernon Starks of Long Beach, Calif.; and a godchild, Lashel McCullough, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Corinthian Robertson in 1992; her mother, Zoda Starks in 1989; two sisters, Lorraine Starks in 1956 and Amy Stewart in 1995; and by a brother, Walter Starks, Jr., in 1952.

Ms. Starks had been employed as a nursing aide by Coventry Terrace Nursing Home, Rockford, Ill.

Funeral services are scheduled for noon on Tuesday at New Horizons Outreach Center Church where she was a member.

Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery.
