Maurice G. Stayton
GRANGER - Maurice G. Stayton, 81,
residing on Ash Road, Granger, Ind., passed away at 5:42 a.m. on
Friday, Aug. 2, in Elkhart General Hospital. Mr. Stayton was born
on July 29, 1921, in Mishawaka, Ind., to the late Glenn Oliver
and Mabel Louise (Holm) Stayton. He had been a lifelong
area resident.
On Nov. 30, 1941, in South Bend, Ind., he
married the former Iva Fay Miller, who preceded him in
death on March 2, 2000, after 59 years of marriage. Mr. Stayton
was also preceded in death by one sister, Janis Hunsberger,
and by a brother, Barny Stayton. Mr. Stayton is survived by three
daughters, Judy (Gary) Secor of Elkhart, Ind., Sharon
(Chuck, Sr.) Sowders of Mishawaka and Debbie (Tim) Kling
of Elkhart; one son, Jerry (Becky) Stayton of Osceola, Ind.; 10
grandchildren, Kelley Nease, Shelley Dietz, Stacey Buczolich,
Jill Deckard, Jerry Stayton Jr., Jennifer Webb, Roy
Webb II, Michele Jennings, Adam Kling and Alex Kling; nine great-
grandchildren, Zachary Nease, Garrett Nease, Jacob Dietz, Alec
Dietz, Paige Dietz, Jared Deckard, Jordan Deckard, Dean Stayton
and Alec Jennings "A.J." Schinider; one sister,
Lenora Elder of Plymouth, Ind.; and by three brothers,
Oliver Stayton of Graham, Wash., Russell Stayton of Elkhart and
Cleo Stayton of Bristol, Ind.
Maurice retired from the Vincent Bach
Corporation in 1985. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose,
Elkhart, and UAW #364 in Elkhart. He enjoyed his retirement
playing euchre and golf, and tinkering with cars. He especially
enjoyed spending time with his family. Maurice was greatly loved
and will be missed by his family.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on
Monday, Aug. 5, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 1109 Lincoln Way
West, Osceola. Rev. Daniel Boes, pastor of Twin Branch Bible
Church, and Rev. Dave Stauffer, assistant pastor of New Life
Baptist Church, officiated. Graveside services and burial
followed at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends visited with
the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4th, in the
Palmer Funeral Home, Osceola. Contributions in memory of Maurice
