Paul D. Stebbins

March 16, 1925 - July 18, 2002

Paul Dean Stebbins, 77, of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away peacefully after a brief illness at 1:08 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind.

Dean was born March 16, 1925, in Mishawaka, to the late Forest and Lucy Jane (Gilliland) Stebbins.

On Feb. 19, 1946, in St. Joseph's Rectory, Mishawaka, he married Alyce Joyce Clark, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Judith (Jon) Nace and Kathleen (Lynn) Swearingen, both of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Jill Nace, Jeff Nace, Sarah Swearingen and Alan Swearingen; a sister, Mary Jane (Albert) Carter of Mishawaka; and by two brothers, Jay "Pete" (Dorlyn) and Les (Marna) Stebbins, both of Mishawaka.

Mr. Stebbins graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1943, and served with the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He worked as a salesman for several car dealerships and retired from Claeys Wholesale in 1990. The Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Notre Dame were his favorite teams. He was a member of the Euchre Club, Fraternal Order of Police, V.F.W. Post 360, American Legion Post 161, and was a charter member of Club 15.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, July 19, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka. Services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
