David J. Steenbeke

SOUTH BEND - David J. Steenbeke, 65, of Medora Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an illness at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, in the Hospice House.

He was born on July 30, 1931, in South Bend, and lived here his entire life.

 

He is survived by his mother, Marie (DeFreeuw) Steenbeke of South Bend; a daughter, Cheryl (Werner) Gunthner of Lebanon, Ore.; a son, Robert (Vicky) Steenbeke of Schertz, Texas; three grandchildren, Sabrina Steenbeke of Schertz, Jennifer Rolston and Bobby Lee Rolston.

He is also survived by two sisters, Louise (John) Rucano of South Bend and Donna M. Reimer of Fishers, Ind.; two brothers, Allen Steenbeke and Mark Steenbeke, both of South Bend. He is also survived by his faithful companion, an English springer spaniel, Sarah.

 

He was a member of the American Legion Post 297, New Carlisle, Ind., and was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday in the McGann Funeral Homes, Council Oak Gardens Chapel, 21275 W. Cleveland Road, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
