Brother Jerome Steffes CSC, 76, of Dujarie House, died at 6 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Medical Center, after an illness of several weeks. He was born March 15, 1904 in Springfield, Ill.; entered the Congregation of the Holy Cross Brothers in 1919; and made his final profession of vows in 1934. His assignments included Sacred Heart Juniorate in Watertown, Wis.; the former Dujarie Hall (now Carroll Hall) at the University of Notre Dame; Northeastern Seminary; Holy Cross High School, New Orleans; and St. Edward’s University, Austin, Texas. He also helped build several churches in the Austin area. After 1964 he worked as a maintenance man and did machine work at St. Joseph Farm, Granger, where he remained until 1976. From 1976 until his death he resided at Dujarie. He is survived by a brother, Brother Andrew Steffles CSC of the Holy Cross Brothers Center.

 

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Holy Cross Brothers Center with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery at the Center. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Brothers Center, where a wake will be observed at 7:30 p.m.
