Thomas L. Steigmeyer

May 15, 1925 - March 15, 2001

Thomas L. Steigmeyer, 75, of South Bend, Ind., passed away following an illness on Thursday evening, March 15, in the University of Chicago Hospital.

He was born on May 15, 1925, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Emmanuel and Beatrice (Groff) Steigmeyer.

On July 25, 1981, in South Bend, he married Martha J. Lacey, who survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Christine Mielke (Von), Lynn Hailey (Gary) of South Bend, Karen Johnson of Sanford, Fla.; son, Brian Steigmeyer of Noblesville, Ind.; stepsons, Darren (Elizabeth) Lacey of South Bend, Scott (Lee) Lacey of Norfolk, Va.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a sister, Joan Steigmeyer, C.S.C., of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a brother, Hank Steigmeyer of Auburn Hills, Mich.

Mr. Steigmeyer retired in 1994 as head cook at the J&A Grill in South Bend where he worked for 15 years. He served in World War II with the United States Navy.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, in the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, 20531 Darden Road, with Rev. James Campbell officiating. Cremation has taken place at the Michiana Crematory, and burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.

The Welsheimer Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
