Harry R. Stimson

SOUTH BEND - Harry R. Stimson, M.D., 70, of South Bend, passed away Sunday in his residence. Dr. Stimson was born July 9, 1939, in Gary, Indiana, to the late Harry and Alice (Gehring) Stimson. On June 27, 1964, in South Bend, Harry married Nancy (Miller), who survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Kimberly (Tariq) Aslam of Los Alamos, N.M., and Jennifer (Keith) Hite of New Carlisle; son, Thomas Stimson of South Bend, eight grandchildren, James Aslam, Holly Aslam, Michael Aslam, Hannah Aslam, Jaden Vervynckt, Lilly Hite, Cassandra Hite and Anastasia Hite; and sister, Susan (David) Brewer of Huntington, IN. Dr. Stimson graduated from the School of Pharmacy at Purdue University in 1963, Indiana University School of Medicine in 1967, and worked in Rotating Internship at Memorial Hospital 1967-68. He was honorably discharged as a captain with the United States Air Force at Carswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth, TX, 1968-1970. He completed his Family Practice Residency at Memorial Hospital 1970-1972, and became Board Certified in Family Practice in 1972. Dr Stimson was in private practice with Ireland Road Family Physicians, Inc., from 1972 till 2004 when he retired. He was past president of medical staff at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was also presented Teacher of the Year award by the residents of Memorial Hospital Family Practice Residency 1987-88. He was currently the Medical Director at Sister Maura Brannick Health Center. Dr. Stimson was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 25th, in Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with Rev Don Neely officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family 3:00 till 8:00 p.m. today in the funeral home.
