Sister Mary Godfrey CSC, 92, of St. Mary’s Convent, died in the convent Sunday morning after a lengthy illness. Born Aug. 15, 1883 in St. Johns, Newfoundland, as Elizabeth Ann Stockman, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, St. Mary’s June 9, 1903, coming from St. Johns. She was received as a novice Dec. 8, 1903 and professed her vows on Dec. 8, 1905. She was assigned to housekeeping duties and served at St. Mary’s Convent and Holy Cross Convent at Notre Dame for many years. She also served at St. Mary’s Hospital in Cairo, Ill. She had lived in the convent since 1958.

 

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Loretto Church, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery on the campus. Friends may call today and Tuesday in the convent parlors where a rosary will be recited at 7:15 p.m. today.
