Eleanor M. Stoeckinger

NOTRE DAME - Eleanor M. Stoeckinger, 76, of Andre Place at Holy Cross Village in Notre Dame, IN (formerly of Tomahawk Trail in South Bend), passed away at 7:45 PM Saturday, December 20, 2008, in Dujarie House, Notre Dame, IN.

 

She was born on July 31, 1932, to the late Frank and Julia (Seeberger) Huemmer in Mishawaka, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. Along with her parents, one brother, Edward Huemmer of Mishawaka, IN, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Stoeckinger retired in 1997 as a registered nurse from the Saint Joseph Medical Center in South Bend after 25 years of employment. She also taught nursing at the former Holy Cross School of Nursing for 10 years. On June 25, 1955, as Eleanor M. Huemmer, she married Wilfrid "Bill" Stoeckinger on June 25, 1955, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, IN. She is survived by her loving husband, Wilfrid "Bill" Stoeckinger of Notre Dame, IN; two daughters, Joyce M. (Thomas) McFadden of LaGrange, IL, and Carol S. (Patrick) Fahey of Fort Wayne, IN; four grandchildren, Kathleen (Hamish) Allanson of Boston, MA, Mary Clare McFadden of LaGrange, IL, Kristin (Matthew) Weirich of Louisville, KY, and Catherine Fahey of Fort Wayne, IN; one sister, Marianne Rooney of Monroe, LA; three brothers, Thomas (Gloria) Huemmer of Houston, TX, Frank (Carole) Huemmer of Cleveland, OH, and John (Barbara) Huemmer of South Bend, IN; and a sister-in-law, Alma Huemmer of Mishawaka, IN. Mrs. Stoeckinger was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and the Christ Child Society. She was an avid bridge player.

 

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM today, December 22, 2008, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 PM. Friends and family may also visit from 10 - 11 AM Tuesday, Dec. 23, in St. Joseph Chapel at Holy Cross College, Notre Dame, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, Dec. 23, in St. Joseph Chapel at Holy Cross College, with Rev. Kenneth Grabner, C.S.C., officiating. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Child Society, 1124 Thomas Street, South Bend, IN 46601; to the IUSB School of Nursing, 1700 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN 46634; or to the Corpus Christi Catholic Church Building Fund, 2822 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend, IN 46628.
