Mary Alice Stokes

April 22, 1918 - Oct. 14, 1999

In loving memory of Mary Alice Stokes, 81, mother and grandmother, who died peacefully in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center, South Bend, on Oct. 14, 1999, at 2:05 p.m. Mary was born in Macy, Ind., on April 22, 1918, to Agnes and Henry Myers. She spent her school age years in Kewanna, Ind., where she had many fond memories of growing up. On Jan. 24, 1944, she married Lawrence J. Stokes in Kewanna. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1987. Mary spent many years working in the printing industry. Her family moved to Mishawaka in 1959. Mary is survived by her four daughters, Alice Matlock (John) of Niles, Mich., Jane King, Becky Miscewicz (Tom), and Katherine Scott (Mike), all of South Bend. She also leaves four granddaughters, Angela Tubbs (Tim) of South Bend, Diane Nally of Mishawaka, Tracy Matlock-Lesher (Roy) of South Bend and Jodi Matlock of Niles. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Lauren and Abigail Tubbs of South Bend and Tyler and Cody Nally of Mishawaka. Mary will be remembered for her red hair, her love of cats and some of her special home cooked family recipes, along with our individual special thoughts and memories.

 

Cremation will take place and there will be a family service at a later date. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. Memorial contributions may be made to Pet Refuge in Mishawaka. Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, is handling arrangements.
