Sister M. Lenore Streb CSC, 81 of Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent, died at 11 p.m. Friday, in St. Joseph Medical Center after an illness. She was born Mary Catherine Streb on Sept. 13, 1908, in Canton Ohio, and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross, St. Mary’s on Oct. 2, 1927, coming from Canton. Received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1928, she made her profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1930.

 

She was assigned to teaching in Michigan, Illinois and Indiana, including St. Patrick’s and Holy Cross schools in South Bend. She was assigned as librarian at Marian High School in Woodstock, Ill., from 1962 to 1975, followed by a year at St. Mary’s Academy, South Bend. In 1976 she was assigned to the Staff of Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent, South Bend, where she served until her recent illness. Surviving are two sisters, Ruth Stein and Joan Payne, both of Canton; and a brother, Robert Streb of Canton.

 

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Church of Loretto, St. Mary’s. Internment will be at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s, Notre Dame. Friends may call Monday after 3 p.m. is Saint Mary’s Convent, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m. Hickey Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund.
