MISHAWAKA - Zelma Simone Stroobandt, 82, of 1309 Berkley Circle, died yesterday afternoon in St., Joseoph Medical Center, South Bend, after an illness. She was retired from the Uniroyal plant in Mishawaka. She was born July 8, 1905 in Assenede, Belgium, and had spent most of her life in this area. On Aug. 15, 1925, in St. Joseph, as Simone Vervaet, she married Harry Stroobandt. He died Dec. 16, 1986. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jo O’Neil of Mishawaka, and Patricia Kent of Sugarland, Texas; and a son Jack of Simpsonville, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Emily Vaerewyck of Mishawaka.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Bavo’s Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Hahn’s DeVos Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm.
