JAMES A. STROUP
  James Arthur Stroup, 85, formerly of 54658 Edgewater Dr., Lydick,
died at 5 a.m. today in the Haven Hubbard Home, New Carlisle, after an
illness of one month.  Mr. Stroup had been a teacher in the Lydick
area for many years.  He was born on July 16, 1882, in St. Joseph
County.  On July 3, 1906, he married Nellie May Mikesell, who
survives.  Also surviving are a son, Donald Dean, of Lydick; two
daughters, Mrs. Edna Figgins of Mishawaka and Mrs. Ailene Engle of
Michigan; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn
Stroup of South Bend, and a sister, Mrs. Lucy Bromley, a resident of
the Haven Hubbard Home.  Friends may call after noon Friday in the
Welsheimer Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2 p.m.
Saturday, Rev. Harry Hoffman, pastor of the Lydick EUB Church,
officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.  Mr. Stroup
was a member of the Lydick EUB Church and Terre Coupe Lodge 204, F &
AM.
