Benedict Strzelecki

Benedict Strzelecki, 77, of Ashard Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away of natural causes on Wednesday evening, April 14, in his home. He was born Aug. 14, 1926, in South Bend, to John Strzelecki and Mary Strzelecki Peczkowski, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John Strzelecki.

 

He was married June 24, 1950, in Terre Coupee, to Alice Gadacz, who survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Diana Lynn, and son-in-law, Richard Wasielewski, of Champlin, Minn.; granddaughters, Lynn Wasielewski of Arlington, Va., Dawn (Damian) Lue Pann of Orlando, Fla., Jennifer (Brian) McElya of Evansville, Ind., Nicole Strzelecki of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; and grandson, Keith Strzelecki of Granger, Ind. He is also survived by brothers, Harry (Rita) Strzelecki and Arthur (Martha) Strzelecki, both of South Bend, Joseph (Betty) Peczkowski of Granger, Robert (Virginia) Peczkowski of South Bend and Thomas (Lorraine) Peczkowski of Hampton Bays, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. Ben was a 45-year member of American Legion Pulaski Post 357 and a member of Polish National Alliance Group #83. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Cowpens.

 

Visitation will be today, April 18, from 2 to 8 p.m. in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend. A prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 19, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, with entombment to follow in the Resurrection Gardens Mausoleum at the St. Joseph Cemetery.
