Sister M. Placides Sullivan, CSC

Sister M. Placides, CSC, aged 77 years, died yesterday at St. Mary’s College and Academy following 12 years illness with paralysis. Sister Placides, whose worldly name was Bridget Sullivan, was one of the band of Holy Cross sisters who went out from the community during the civil war to nurse the soldiers. After the close of the war her health was much impaired and the last 12 years she was I confined invalid. She finally succumbed yesterday.

 

She came to the community from New York, her final vows being taken in 1864. She went immediately to the war and was present during several of the worst sieges and engagements.

 

The funeral was held at 1 o’clock this afternoon from the chapel at St. Mary’s and burial was in the Community Cemetery.
