Mabel Bernice Summy

SOUTH BEND - Mabel Bernice Summy, 99, of New Port Richey, Fla., formerly of 1110 S. 26th St., died at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday at the home of her daughter in New Port Richey. Mrs. Summy retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. in 1961 after 15 years as a switchboard operator. She was born Aug. 27, 1895, in Wakarusa.

 

On June 30, 1923, in Goshen, as Mabel Berice Mangold, she married Hobart V. Summy. He died in 1963. Surviving are two daughters, Joan Deck of New Port Richey and Mary Alice Nash of Carlsbad, Calif.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bertha Sechrist of Nappanee. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, a volunteer for American Lung Association, Goodwill Industries and Memorial Hospital.

 

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Southlawn Cemetery with burial to follow. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Sunday School of the Air, P.O. Box 222, South Bend, 46601.
