SOUTH BEND - Bill R. Sutherland, 85, of
Meridian Nursing Center-Cardinal, died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday in
the nursing home after an illness. Mr. Sutherland was a janitor
at Valley State College. He was born July 28, 1908, in Canton,
Miss., and had lived in this area three years, coming from
Slaughter, Miss.
In 1925, in Sumner, Miss., he married Millie
Johnson. She survives with six daughters, Susie Smith,
Eliza Boyd and Annie Strickland, all of South Bend,
Sara Spratt of Slaughter, Rosella Bagette of Eutis,
Fla., and Margaret Evans of Umatilla, Fla.; two sons,
Willie and Albert, both of Chicago; and 53 grandchildren. He was
a deacon at Home Chapel Church, Slaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in
Alford's Mortuary. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends
may call from 1 p.m. until services Monday in the funeral home.
