Paul J. Swain

SOUTH BEND - Services will be Monday for Paul J. Swain, 58, of 1115 N. St. Peter, who died at 8:08 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Hospital about an hour after he was struck by a Conrailfreight train at the Leer Street crossing. St. Joseph County Coroner Stanley Koscielski said he is withholding a ruling on the death, pending results of a police investigation. Swain was employed by the South Bend Waste Water Treatment Plant. He was born on Sept. 16, 1921 in Mishawaka and lived in this area all his life.

 

On July 8, 1950 he married the former Margaret M. Cressy who survives. Also surviving are a daughter Eileen A. Swain, at home; three sons, Patrick T. of Granger, Richard C. of South Bend, and Kevin R. of Michigan City’ a sister Mary Alice Hupp of Mishawaka, and a brother, Hilton J. of Bremen.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Donald Dilg CSC, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the McGann Funeral Home. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Santa Maria Council 553, and an Army veteran of World War. II. There will be a parish rosary at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home.
