Agnes S. Swanson

Agnes E. Swanson, 90, of Rockne Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 10:01 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18, in her residence.

 

Agnes was born on May 16, 1908, in Barron, Wis., to the late John and Emma (Kuhnly) Hunt.

 

On April 11, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., she married Howard R. Swanson, who passed away in 1962. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Bryan, Sr.

 

Agnes is survived by her daughter, Barbara Waugh of Hemet, Calif.; a son, Paul (Marcia) Swanson of South Bend; eight grandchildren, Harry (June) Bryan of Benton, Calif., Howard Bryan of Carlsbad, Calif., Jeanine (Steve) Bizzaro of South Bend, Catherine (John) Voorde of South Bend, Charlotte Swanson of North Manchester, Ind., Patricia Swanson of South Bend, Matthew Swanson of Niles, Mich., Dawn (Tony) Jordan of Fairmont, Ind.; two sisters, Bessie Jenness of Rice Lake, Wis., and Dorothy Ridgeway of North Liberty; and by 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

 

In 1983 Agnes retired as a receptionist for Dr. Walter Barkes after 25 years of service.

 

She was a volunteer for 20 years at the Hamilton Grove Methodist Retirement Home, was a member of the Audubon Society, and had been a leader of two campfire groups. Agnes was a member and very active in the Albright United Methodist Church of Mishawaka and participated in many of the church groups.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Albright United Methodist Church, Mishawaka. Burial will take place in the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Granger, Ind.
