John P. Swartz

May 7, 1938 - Oct. 3, 2000

John P. Swartz, 62, of Vistula Road, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away unexpectedly after a sudden illness at home at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, in the emergency room of St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka.

Mr. Swartz was born on May 7, 1938, in South Bend, Ind., as the son of John and Margaret (Lippelt) Swartz. He was a lifetime area resident and a University of Notre Dame graduate.

Mr. Swartz was preceded in death by his father, John A. Swartz in 1998; and by a brother, Chuck Swartz in 1967.

On Sept. 27, 1985, in Mishawaka, he married the former Mary (Boehnlein) Lannoo. Mr. Swartz is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, Dan (Lori) Swartz of North Dakota, Matt Swartz of Mishawaka and Charlie (Connie) Swartz of Cassopolis, Mich.; two stepdaughters, Dawn Lannoo of South Bend and Machelle Lannoo of Mishawaka; a stepson, Chris (Dawn) Lannoo of Bristol, Ind.; his mother, Margaret Swartz of South Bend; two grandchildren, Courtney Swartz of South Bend and Ashley Swartz of Cassopolis; five step-grandchildren, Josh Lannoo, Nikki Lannoo and Zane VanZant, all of Mishawaka, Justin Lannoo of South Bend and Melissa Kenney of Florida.

Mr. Swartz was the owner of Sun Master Awnings, Mishawaka, and was a partner of Cars Unlimited. He was a member and sponsor of Ducks Unlimited. Mr. Swartz was a United States Army veteran, and was also an Eagle Scout.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 6, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
