William A. Sweeney

William A. Sweeney, 70, of Plymouth, Ind., formerly of Lansing, Ill., and South Chicago, died after an extended illness Sunday morning, Dec. 2, in his home.

He is survived by Elizabeth, his loving wife of 45 years; children, Patricia (Bob) Quayle of Lansing, William (Hazel) of St. John, Daniel (Sandi) of Beecher, Thomas of Lansing, Mary Sweeney of Avon, Minn., and Susan (Raymond) Pudlo of Crown Point. He is also survived by 16 wonderful grandchildren, Lori, Stefanie, Kevin, Samantha, Carissa, Daniel, Garrick, Kristen, Michelle, Brian, Robert, Nicole, Amber, Rachel, Jennifer and Matthew; two brothers, Jack of Danbury, Conn., and Fred of Darien, Ill.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Violet Sweeney; and by a brother, David of Lansing.

William was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, a 52-year member of the Knights of Columbus, most of which was the Lansing Council #3540 and recently with Plymouth Council #1975. He was a retired member of IBEW L ocal #134 of Chicago, and was also a retired employee of the Village of Lansing where he served as an electrical inspector and then superintendent of public works. William will not only be missed by his wife and family, he will be missed by numerous friends and neighbors, and especially his dog, "Princess."

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, from the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, Ill., to St. Ann Church for Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial at Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to be disbursed.
