Clarence Frank Szczechowski

Clarence Frank "Sid" Szczechowski, 76, of Sandy Hill Lane, South Bend, Ind., died at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, in Memorial Hospital. He was born May 26, 1925, in South Bend, and was the son of George and Stella (Staszewski) Szczechowski. Mr. Szczechowski retired from Westinghouse Electric.

 

On June 8, 1946, he married the former Esther Zalas, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Sue (Bill) Lowe of Plymouth, Ind.; three sons, Larry Szczechowski of South Bend, Ken (Debbie) Szczechowski of North Liberty, Ind., and Jim (Michelle) Szczechowski of South Bend; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Daniel Szczechowski; and by four sisters, Esther Mumaw, Evelyn Deka, Alice Cukrowicz and Virginia Tomaszewski. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Jerry Sechowski, John Sechowski, Richard Szczechowski and Ben Szczechowski.

 

Mr. Szczechowski was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, and was an Army veteran of World War II where he was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars #8748, the Disabled American Veterans #39 and American Legion Bendix Post #284. He had many interests which included his friends, golf and traveling.

 

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be said at 5 p.m. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with entombment to follow at the Resurrection Gardens in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 415 N. Brookfield Street, South Bend, IN 46628; or to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
