Patricia A. Szymczak, age 66, of South Lake Street, South Bend, passed away after a battle with lung cancer on Thursday, June 29, in her home.

She was born on May 13, 1934 in South Bend to the late Leo Banicki and Mary Jankowiak.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Banicki and Robert Banicki, and a nephew, John Banicki.

On Sept. 5, 1959 at St. Casimir Church in South Bend, which was next door to her childhood home, she married William L. Szymczak who survives.  She is also survived by her daughter and only child, Diana (Richard) Rectenwal; five grandchildren, Richie, Tina, Alex, Jonnie and Sara; her sister Sandra Parmerlee; and nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend where a Rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m.  Services will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday in Holy Family Catholic Church with burial to follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Pat who was also known as Nonny, devoted her life taking care of her daughter and then helping take care of her grandchildren.  She loved to visit them and bring them meals.  She loved all her family very much and her absence in all our lives will be difficult.  All we know, however, that she is at peace in her new life with Jesus.
