Mary K. Takacs

Memorial services for Mary Takacs, 89, who died on October 1, in Healthwin Hospital and Nursing Home, will be held at 11am, Friday, November 1, in Highland Cemetery Chapel, South Bend IN.

 

Mrs. Takacs had resided in South Bend since 1921, coming from Bodrogkisfalud, Hungary, where she was born on September 16, 1907.  On January 15, 1924, as Mary Kerekes, she married Julius A. Takacs, who preceded her in death on January 16, 1994.

 

She is survived by two daughters, Louise (Lenny) Rzeszewski of South Bend and Lillian (Neil) Sherwood of Plymouth IN; and a son, Julius E. of Yreka CA.

 

A son, Jack, preceded her in death on December 3, 1993.  He widow, the former Mary Margaret (Peggy) Callahan of Las Vegas NV, formerly of Mishawaka, also survives along with seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Helen (Felix) Gruber of Kingsville OH; three brothers, Adam Kerekes of Ashtabula OH, Gene Wheeler of San Bruno CA and Brother Stephen Kerekes, SVD, of Madang, Papua, New Guinea.

 

A sister, Elizabeth (Joseph) Gavaller, also preceded her in death on January 6, 1995, in Duarte CA.

 

Mrs. Takacs had been employed as a cook and housekeeper.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Healthwin Hospital Activities Dune, Arthritis Society of St. Joseph County, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
