Services for Brother James Talarovic CSC, 72, of Dujarie House, University of Notre Dame, who died at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend, after an illness, will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Chapel at the Holy Cross Brothers Centers. Burial will be at in St. Joseph Cemetery at the Brothers Center. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday at the Brothers Center, where a wake will be at 7:30 p.m.

 

He was born May 4, 1915 in Cleveland, Ohio; became a novice on July 1, 1933, and professed his vows in the Congregation of Holy Cross on Aug. 16, 1934. He served on the faculty at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis before going to the Missions of Bengal, India (now Bangladesh) in 1941. He remained there until illness forced his return last month. He was superintendent of the Toomila Mission schools, headmaster of Holy Cross High School at Bandura and St. Gregory’s High School in Dhaka, and taught in many of the mission stations throughout Bangladesh. He was fluent in the Bengal language and translated books and songs.
