FISH LAKE - Lewis E. Tener, 76, of 223 Lilac Lane, Walkerton, Ind., died at 2:23 p.m., Sunday, in LaPorte Hospital, LaPorte. He was born Jan. 2, 1920 in Kouts, Ind. He lived in Fish Lake all of his life.

On July 13, 1973, in Walkerton, he married Frances Smith. She survives along with a daughter, Jean Wright of Plymouth, Ind.; a son, John Tener of Elko, Nev.; and a stepson, Leonard ''Ike'' Smith of South Bend, Ind.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several step-grandchildren; two brothers, Ervin Tener of Plymouth, Ind., and Donald Tener of South Bend, Ind.; three sisters, Loie Bonifacius of Walkerton, Ind., Fay Young of Cherebusco, Ind., and May Mann of Cromwell, Ind.

Mr. Tener was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and served on the USS Oklahoma during the Pearl Harbor attack. He was a member of American Legion Post 400 of Fish Lake.

He worked with Carpenter Local 1485, retiring after 50 years of service.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, in the Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., with the Rev. Rob Gates of Koontz Lake, Ind. officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m., today and Wednesday, until time of service in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln Township Volunteer Fire Department.
