Elizabeth Thallemer

Aug. 7, 1848 – June 10, 1926

Mishawaka - When relatives of Mrs. Elizabeth Thallemer went to her room this morning at 8 o’clock to serve her breakfast, they found she had died during the night or morning, in her residence, 517 Forest Avenue. Yesterday she was able to be up and about, although for the last six months she had been ill. Rheumatism and a complication of diseases are given as the cause of death.

 

Mrs. Thallemer was 77 years old and had come to this city 55 years ago from Chicago.

 

Her parents Mr. and Mrs. William Leyes came to this country from Germany and she was the eldest of 12 children.

 

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Aug. 7, 1848, and was married to Alois Thallemer Oct. 15, 1882. He died March 16, 1905.

 

Surviving are three sons, Joseph and William of Mishawaka, and Herman of South Bend; three sisters, Mrs Wilhelmina Dosmann, Mishawaka, Miss Anna Leyes, South Bend, Mrs. Lena Hunsberger, St. Clemens, Canada, and two brothers, George Leyes, Hamilton, Canada, and Louis Leyes, Mishawaka.

 

The body may be viewed at the residence tomorrow. The funeral will be held from St. Monica’s Catholic Church Monday morning at 9 o’clock, Rev. John F. Hohl officiating.

 

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Thallemer was a member of the Rosary Society of St. Monica’s Church.

 

Editor: Although not mentioned it her obituary, her son Joseph was the owner of the Thallemer Funeral Home at the time of her death.
