Anthony “Tony” James Thirion, 40,of Riverside Drive, South Bend, passed away on Sunday, November 7, in Saint Joseph’ Regional Medical Center.

 

Tony was born on December 15, 1958, in South Bend, to Mary L. (Vavul) and Gustave J. Thirion.  Tony’s father, Gustave J. Thirion, preceded him in death on December 7, 1979.

 

He is survived by his mother, Mary L. Thirion, his sisters, Carol (Robert) Mathews of Shelbyville IN; Mary Dee Harrington of Denver CO; Therese (Richard) Fogle of South Bend; his brothers, William J. (Barbara) Thirion of Bradenton FL; John S. (Christine) Thirion of Colorado Springs CO; Edward P. (Marge) Thirion of Sarasota FL; and Leo (Alice) Thirion of Indianapolis IN; his dear friends, Rita and Mary Sue Speybroeck, and Tony Rulli; and by 22 nieces and nephews, 26 great nieces and nephews, and four great great nieces and nephews.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday, November 10, in Holy Cross Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery.  Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm today, November 9, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 7pm.

 

Tony, a friend to all he knew, was affiliated with Logan Center, participated in the Special Olympics, loved bowling, Saturday recreation, art classes and music.  He was an avid Notre Dame fan, but mostly, loved his mother.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Logan Center, 125 N. Eddy Street, South Bend IN 46617.
