Bergan B. Thomas

NEW CARLISLE - Bergan B. Thomas, 82, of Miller's Merry Manor, formerly of U.S. 20, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the nursing home. Mr. Thomas retired as owner/operator of Thomas' Grocery and Oil Co. He was born April 22, 1913, in Halstead, Pa., and lived in New Carlisle since 1953.

On Feb. 9, 1935, in Johnson City, N.Y., he married Evelyn E. Gardner. She died Oct. 1, 1994. She is survived by a daughter, Diane Cartwright of Syracuse; a son, Steven M. of Rolling Prairie; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A daughter, Marilyn Hancz, died April 21, 1979. He was a member of New Carlisle United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 397, and was a veteran of World War II.
