Sister M. Adelaide Tobin CSC, 79, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 3 p.m. Sunday in the convent after a lengthy illness. Born Adelaide Jane Tobin on July 4, 1901 in Tekemah, Neb., she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on July 2, 1921. She was received as a novice on Jan. 6, 1922 and made her final profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1924. Throughout her professional life she served as a secondary school teacher in the Anderson and Hammond area as well as in California; Idaho and Utah, where she served as a teacher and Dean of Women at the College of Wasatch in Salt Lake City. She stayed in several retirement houses of the Congregation from 1971 to 1977, when she came to St. Mary’s. Survivors include a sister, Sister M. Catherine Tobin CSC of St. Mary’s Convent.

 

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Loretto Church, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Friends may call until services at the convent parlors, where a wake will be at 7 p.m. today.
